Day Seven - Crocs!

22/8/2013

Got up early this morning and headed up to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures to finally check out some crocs. We started the day with a boat ride in the lagoon where the crocs jump up right next to the boat. The lagoon is home to twenty-one crocs including Ted, the second biggest captive croc in the world.
Next was the Cassowary feeding where we got to hand feed the Cassowaries some apple and tomato. Then we went on a tour of the crocodile farm where we saw the two-year-old crocs which will be turned into handbags by Louis Vuitton when they are about three years old.

We watched the croc feeding where they feed the Saltwater Crocs and then the Freshwater Crocs. After that we went for a wander around the rest of the park, including the walk-in wallaby enclosure where we encountered a feisty little Red-legged Pademelon.

For lunch I had Salt & Pepper Crocodile, I’ve never tried croc before and it was actually pretty good, the texture of fish but tasted more like chicken. Then we hit the gift shop where I bought a croc skin belt.

Who thought it would be us eating the crocs?!

After the croc farm, I dropped Mum and Lil Sis back at the motel and headed for Cattana Wetlands while the girls went for a walk up to the shops. I finally had some luck and found Green Pygmy-goose which was what I hoped to see. I also saw White-browed Crake, another lifer.

I headed back into town and picked Mum and Lil Sis up and then we headed down to the wharf for a look at the boat we are heading out on tomorrow. We went for a walk along the southern end of the Esplanade and checked out the Lagoon. Back to the motel for a home-cooked dinner and to get ready for our trip to the reef tomorrow.
