Day Six - Bugs Alive

4/1/2018

A laid-back start to the morning, which gave us a chance to catch up with our friend and to hang out with George the cat. At about 11:00am we caught the train into the city. We hopped off at Parliament, walking through Carlton Gardens and past the National Exhibition Building, to the Melbourne Museum. This was not our first, or even our second, visit to this museum.

First we checked out the latest exhibition, Inside Out, which featured objects from the museum archives that are not usually on display. Highlights included a Mickey Mouse "Mick-A-Matic" camera from 1968, a taxidermy polar bear which was displayed in a very unique way, and a Skyline Caravan from 1957.

Next a quick bite to eat from the museum café and then we inevitably found ourselves drawn to Bugs Alive! a permanent exhibition which we keep coming back to. This time we viewed the specimens, both live and dead, with a newfound appreciation since our recent forays into the world of amateur entomology.

After investigating the Hall of Mammals and of course paying a visit to the resident giant squid specimen, we headed back through Carlton Gardens into the CBD. We headed down Bourke Street, in search of the Big Purse to get some photos of another 'Big Thing' and then did a spot of shopping.

Tomorrow we are set to tackle the Great Ocean Road.
